It gives me great pleasure to share with you and announce the music program of the 16th PJFestival, which is well-known that is happening in beautiful Pomos Village, at Paradise Place during the weekend of Friday the 7th and Saturday the 8th of August 2015.
For this year we are happy to blend a rich program which contains 5 bands all together for both nights and an organized ‘After hours’ jazz meeting' per night with Island`s best new projects, new cooperators and special quests flying from Europe and Israel. We are so proud to have them all with us. A great
company! All together musically it is a variety of different styles not to be missed.
More specific on Friday the 7th the festival will start on 9.30pm in celebrating mood with the percussion group ‘Batukinio’, a band which was formed in 2009 by the renowned percussionist and drummer Rodos Panagiotou and by now has 35 members. The timbres of the group are based in the Afro- Brazilian music such as Samba Batucada and Samba Reggae.
We will continue on 10.30pm with the ‘Andreas Rodosthenous Ethnic Jazz Ensemble’ which was formed for the purpose of the recording of his first personal work of original compositions
of Andreas Rodosthenous with the title ‘Simplicity’. The compositions carry sounds that constantly convey memories, tunes and melodies from the East-West and vice versa, both harmonically and rhythmically.
Band members: Andreas Rodosthenous-fretless electric bass, Giorgos Morfitis-piano, Stelios Xydias-drums, Alkis
On 11.30pm we will present a quartet which the 3/4 members of it will appear for first time in our Jazz Festival. They are ‘The Other Quartet’ of Omiros Miltiadous (drums) and Antreas Yerolatsitis (guitar). They will fly to Cyprus for joining our Festival from Netherlands together with the Italian baritone and soprano saxophonist Emilio
Tritto. All three young jazz musicians are studding at the Royal Conservatory of Hague. The band is siding Andreas Rodosthenous on electric bass. ‘The Other Quartet’ mostly plays music from
the American song book with their own arrangements and influenced by other genres of music like rock, funk, etc. They also started playing their own music composed by Emilio.
Friday`s program (and Saturday`s) will end by ‘After Hours jazz meeting’, something like an organized
jam session from selected attendees musicians who will be there all around Paradise Place to celebrate with us the 16th PJFestival !
On Saturday the 8th on 9.30pm with ‘Ioannis Vafeas Project’, a relatively new band which was formed last year and did it's first appearances around the island just recently. The philosophy behind this band is to cover music from straight ahead jazz to ethnic and more contemporary music looking toward the sounds of today. Band members are George Morfitis (piano), Michael Messios (bass) and Ioannis Vafeas (drums).
11.00pm will close up the official program with 'The Meeting Point Jazz Quartet'. This
time Irinaeos Koullouras (acoustic bass), George Koulas (drums) will meet with 2 very special guests. One of them is Ofer Ganor (guitar)
who often joints his 2 Cypriot friends in Cyprus or abroad playing in various places and festivals. This time at the 16th PJF they will play with well known saxophone player Asaf Yuria who lives and works in New York where he is enjoying
a successful career. The quartet deserves to be the highlight of our festival and is promising a magnificent live jazz performance on stage! …
The Festival will end as we mentioned above with the ‘After Hours jazz meeting’. We keep the price of the admission in a considering low price, for your convenience like last year, on €10 per night.
